Looking at one of the LUTs in my store but not sure how they work? I've got you covered!

What is a LUT?

LUT stands for "Look Up Table". The easiest way to think of it is that it functions like a preset for color grading. It's a small file that contains hue, saturation, and brightness data that can be used to modify colors and contrast in your images.

Keep in mind, LUTs are not meant to be a perfect solution in every scenario, but instead serve as a starting point for you to tweak your grade as needed. LUTs perform best with good quality footage, so make sure you expose your image properly and have clean footage to begin with.

How do I use a LUT?

If you're working with flat/RAW/LOG footage, you have to start by converting that footage to a REC 709 color space. If you're not sure how to do that, your camera manufacturer's website can provide a conversion LUT to you for free.

If you're not working with LOG footage, or simply don't know what that is, you're probably good to go already!

Once that's done, you can then apply any of the creative LUTs sold in the store on top of that footage.
